Welcome to Sea Dragon Dreams, a woman-owned online store based in Pensacola, Florida. We offer imaginative apparel, accessories, gifts, home décor and lifestyle products inspired by mermaids, dragons, the ocean, healing and the courage to become who you were always meant to be.

Sea Dragon Dreams was founded by Kathlene “Katie” Rushing—entrepreneur, artist, songwriter, musician, cancer survivor and lifelong believer in the power of creativity.

This store was not simply built. It was born during one of the most difficult chapters of Katie’s life.

Katie’s Story

Katie was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and told that she might have approximately two years to live. She chose not to undergo chemotherapy and instead received Keytruda immunotherapy. Although the treatment was part of her medical journey, its side effects were difficult and often left her confined to bed. Even though this was a difficult time, Katie still believed in miracles. 

During those long and challenging days, Katie turned to creativity.

When her body needed rest, her imagination continued to travel. She began creating product designs filled with color, beauty, fantasy, strength and hope. One design became another, and before long, Katie had created approximately 3,000 designs.

Creating gave her something meaningful to look forward to. It became a way to remain connected to possibility during a time filled with uncertainty. Sea Dragon Dreams began taking shape—not only as a business, but also as a symbol of survival, purpose and transformation.

Then, in January 2026, Katie received the news she had prayed and worked toward: her doctors found no evidence of cancer. She was declared cancer-free. It was truly a miracle.

Free from the effects of cancer and treatment, Katie could finally devote more of her energy to developing Sea Dragon Dreams and bringing her thousands of creative ideas into the world.

Why Sea Dragon Dreams?

Katie has felt drawn to mermaids for many years. To her, mermaids are more than beautiful mythical beings. They are guardians of the sea and ambassadors for marine life and the ocean. They represent intuition, freedom, mystery and our sacred connection to the water.

Dragons hold an equally meaningful place in the Sea Dragon Dreams story. Katie sees dragons as guardians of the earth and sky—powerful symbols of courage, protection and transformation. Dragons remind us that we can rise from the fire of adversity stronger, wiser and more fully ourselves.

Inspired by the Gulf

Katie lives in Pensacola, Florida, and loves being near the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. The emerald water, white-sand beaches, sea life and ever-changing sky continually inspire her work.

Living beside the Gulf has deepened her appreciation for the ocean and strengthened her belief that we are called to respect and protect its creatures. That love flows through the coastal artwork, mermaid imagery, ocean-inspired products and Pensacola creations found throughout Sea Dragon Dreams.

A Lifelong Eye for Beauty

Katie’s appreciation for the beauty of the natural world began long before Sea Dragon Dreams. Her landscape photography was featured in Oprah.com’s Breathing Space series, which showcased a photograph she captured. The feature credited photographer Kathlene Rushing and shared her love of photographing the beauty of the universe.

That same sense of wonder continues to inspire the colors, natural imagery and imaginative spirit found throughout Sea Dragon Dreams.

Because of Katie’s personal experience with cancer and recovery, Sea Dragon Dreams also includes products created to bring encouragement and comfort during the healing process.

Katie understands how long and lonely difficult medical days can feel. She knows that a blanket, comforting pillow, hopeful message or thoughtful gift cannot replace medical care—but it can remind someone that they are loved, supported and not facing the journey alone.

These healing-inspired products are created for patients, survivors, caregivers, families and anyone moving through a season that requires extraordinary courage.

Designed and Curated with Care

Sea Dragon Dreams offers a thoughtful combination of original Sea Dragon Dreams designs and carefully curated products.

Many of our apparel items, accessories, gifts and home décor pieces feature designs created or creatively directed by founder Katie Rushing. These products are made especially for each customer by trusted production partners who print, sew or personalize the items and ship them directly to their new homes.

We also select distinctive products from other trusted makers, brands and suppliers when they complement the spirit of Sea Dragon Dreams. These curated treasures may not feature Katie’s original artwork, but each one is chosen because it reflects the imagination, beauty, comfort, individuality or sense of wonder at the heart of our store.
